Nearshoring

Under the argument that the implementation of mechanisms is required to generate stability in certain sectors of the national industry, which it has been affected by the practice of, among others, nearshoring. The Executive of the Federal Government, on April 22nd, published in the Official Gazette the Decree through which tariffs have been increased on 544 products.

Some of the products that are affected by imports are: steel, aluminum, textiles, clothing, footwear, wood, plastic and its manufactures, chemical products, paper and cardboard, ceramic products, glass and its manufactures, electrical equipment, transportation, musical instruments, furniture, among others.

The tariffs for these 544 tariff items have been increased between 5% and 50%. There are exceptions for certain steel products and other general ones based on the free trade agreements that Mexico has signed.

The Decree came into force on April 23rd, 2024. Noting that these measures are temporary, for a period of two years, that is, until April 22nd, 2026.
